The Investigators Group can conduct background investigations of such persons, prior to their employment., However, sometimes such persons are employed and instead of providing care and companionship to our older family members, these persons turn out to be financial predators who attempt to take control of a family member's life by gaining access to financial authorities, power of attorney for both financial and medical authority and through isolating our family members from us. What Can you Expect From Us:

During the course of an investigation you can expect that we will keep you informed of relevant developments. At the completion of an investigation you will receive detailed Research and or Field Reports written by the investigators assigned to the matter. You will also receive a detailed listing of expenses incurred during the course of the investigation and an invoice. A copy of any video documentation we are able to obtain will be made available to you on CD or DVD.

General Advice Domestic Matters and Investigators:

If you are already involved in litigation, before you retain any private investigation company, you should consult with your family lawyer. He or she may already have a strategy in place that may not require the use of an investigator. Or, he or she may want to use the investigative service in a very specific way. When choosing an investigation company, ensure that they are properly licenced and insured. Make sure they enjoy investigative body status under Canada's privacy laws. A simple way to do that is to make sure they are members of a provincial association in Canada that represents private investigators. In Ontario that association is the Council of Private Investigators Ontario. (CPIO).

Provide the investigator with as much relevant information you can. Beyond identifying personal information, information about a person's habits, hobbies and routine may be critical to the success of an investigation, particularly surveillance investigations.

Make sure you understand the fee structure, hourly costs, rates for mileage, and other expenses prior to the commencement of the file. Also you should understand that any investigator that guarantees success to you is not telling the truth. These types of investigations are often difficult and there are many variables to deal with. Results can't be guaranteed and it is the client that assumes the financial risk.

Finally make sure that there is an agreement in place between you and the investigation company that specifies what the company is contracting with you to do.

Ask for references. As you might imagine, investigators will not be able to provide you with references for individual clients as all matters are confidential but they should be able to provide you with the name of a lawyer or two for you to contact.
